More than 50 exchanges joined Global Money Week 2019

By: The WFE Focus Team May 2019

The 8th edition of Global Money Week (GMW) took place from 25 - 31 March 2019 and was celebrated across the world from New Zealand's Exchange (NZX) to Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), from Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADSM) to The Egyptian Exchange (EGX), from Oslo Stock Exchange to The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), from Bourse de Casablanca to Bolsa de Comercio de Buenos Aires (BCBA), from Bolsa Institucional de Valores (BIVA), and further!

This year over 50 exchanges welcomed children and young people as part of the ‘Ring Around the World’ initiative, which gave them valuable opportunities to learn about the work of exchanges worldwide. Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) were some of the newcomers who joined the other 80 exchanges that have been involved in the campaign since its launch in 2012.

Global Money Week 2019 began officially with the opening of trading at Euronext Stock Exchange Amsterdam by Child & Youth Finance International (CYFI) team – the founders of GMW, the Aflatoun International, and students. More about this celebration can be seen here.

This year 155 countries participated in the campaign. The campaign was organised in partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and African Union Commission. Thousands of organisations including ministries, NGOs, money museums, businesses, financial and education institutions organised events and activities to inspire children and young people to learn about money matters, livelihoods and entrepreneurship.

Next year’s Global Money Week will take place between 23 - 29 March 2020 and we welcome exchanges to join!
