‘Selamat Datang,’ or ‘Welcome,’ to Malaysia, a Country Rich in Diversity, With Exciting Growth Prospects
Bursa Malaysia is excited to welcome you to the 63rd WFE General Assembly & Annual Meeting on 19 – 21 November, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
We are proud to host the three-day event, which will bring together a remarkable gathering of minds among the leaders of key institutions, united by a shared passion for innovation, collaboration and purpose. The programme, curated by the WFE, will feature discussions on some of the most important topics in capital markets today.
Capital Market Development in Malaysia
As a sneak preview, we would like to take the opportunity to provide a glimpse of developments in Malaysia, where capital markets have evolved significantly over the last few decades to make them among the largest and most important in Southeast Asia. The development of the capital market has been driven by the appropriate regulatory frameworks, innovation and a commitment by the government to enhance economic growth.
In recent years, the Malaysian capital market has shown resilience, adapting to trends emerging from global shifts. Efforts like creating new regulatory frameworks and platforms for instruments, technological innovations and partner collaborations in the space of sustainability reflect a commitment to having a vibrant and effective ecosystem.
Over the last couple of years, Bursa Malaysia has shifted to being a multi-asset exchange, supporting the needs of more diverse companies, issuers and investors, the capital market and economic growth. There has also been progress on ESG and climate change issues by focusing on customer experience, product expansion and ecosystem development. Bursa Malaysia has launched the world’s first Shariah compliant carbon exchange, the Bursa Carbon Exchange (BCX), to facilitate the trading of carbon credits and renewable energy certificates (REC). We also now interact directly with investors via the Bursa Gold Dinar app, drawing in a new segment of retail investors to our suite of offerings.
On the Islamic capital market front, Bursa Malaysia aspires to continue to be an innovative, leading exchange for Islamic fund raising and investments. Over 80% of the more than 1,000 listed companies on our exchange are Shariah-compliant. As Bursa Malaysia continues to evolve, it remains poised to play a crucial role in the nation's economic growth and stability.
