WFE takes part in 6th Annual Building African Financial Markets seminar

The Casablanca Stock Exchange hosted the 6th Annual Building African Financial Markets seminar in Casablanca on 18 & 19 May 2017.

The event focuses on capacity building, and targets regulators, exchanges and market intermediaries from across the continent. Siobhan Cleary, Head of Public Policy & Research, WFE (who established this event when she was still at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange) participated in two sessions. On the first day she and Quinton Goddard from Oliver Wyman presented the key findings of the WFE's 2016 joint report with Oliver Wyman on Enhancing Emerging Market Liquidity. On the second day she joined a representative from the IFC, Medhat Nafei from the Egyptian Exchange and a representative from the Moroccan securities market regulator to discuss green finance.

Other topics covered included: corporate governance, IT Infrastructure, blockchain and programmes supporting SMEs. The sessions were notable for active audience participation in the discussion.
