CEO Letter - August 2022

By: Nandini Sukumar, CEO, The WFE Aug 2022

Welcome to our August issue.

In our summer edition, we reflect on the first half and look ahead to the trends shaping the next 18 months.

We start with Ed Tilly, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cboe Global Markets as well as the WFE’s Chairman. He shares his views on the exchange industry’s vital role in the current global market environment, and why he believes exchanges around the world can continue to lead the charge to define evolving areas like ESG and digital assets.

In Asia-Pacific, Japan Exchange Group CEO Akira Kiyota tells us about three key areas the company is focusing on and the positive changes brought about by the pandemic.

And staying in Asia, TWSE’s new Chairman & CEO Sherman H.M. Lin discusses his five-point reform plan and his eagerness to explore fresh initiatives with other exchanges.

In July, the WFE published its second paper on circuit breakers and held a webinar to hear distinguished speakers talk about their experiences. Ben Jackson, ASX’s General Manager of Market Operations, who was one of the speakers, shares his insights about the impact of circuit breakers on market quality, as well as other mechanisms used by exchanges to manage volatility.

Remaining with the theme of resilience and orderly markets, we are delighted to feature Dr. Eva Hupkes, Head of Regulatory and Supervisory Policies at the FSB, who examines how CCPs can weather shocks to the financial system and stay resilient in a challenging and difficult world.

And finally, Chris Edmonds, Chief Development Officer of Intercontinental Exchange, discusses the role that clearing plays in traditional markets and how the crypto world differs.

See you in September for more.
