CEO Letter - July 2025

By: Nandini Sukumar, CEO, The WFE Jul 2025

This month’s CEO letter is guest written by Victoria Powell, Senior Manager, Sustainability.

Welcome to the July edition of Focus. Last month we convened our members and stakeholders to discuss the key ESG issues within the exchange and market infrastructure space at SGX in Singapore. Exchanges sit at the core of the financial market, playing a vital role in creating the vehicles for capital to be deployed into sustainable development. We held a range of panels, keynote speeches and fireside chats from the industry leaders in this space discussing how the industry will meet the challenges of financing the green transition.

Over the next couple of editions of Focus, we will publish insights from some of the speakers at our event. In this issue, we are delighted to feature our hosts, SGX. York Hao Yeo and Timothy Tan, AVP of Risk Validation and AVP of Sustainability & Sustainable Finance at SGX Group, share how the organisation is cutting its emissions and helping the wider financial ecosystem through its Climate Transition Plan.

We hope you enjoy the rest of this issue of the magazine, featuring additional perspectives on sustainability themes from our members and key stakeholders, central to exchanges and CCPs. Alongside our featured article, we publish pieces by:

Azalina Adham, Managing Director, Securities Commission Malaysia, who explains how Malaysia and ASEAN are working together to build credible, inclusive and well-funded pathways for a just transition to a sustainable future.

Lim Sian Choo, Chief Sustainability Officer at Bumitama, who discusses the company's efforts to drive sustainable palm-oil production.

Christa Clapp, Co-Founder of Shades of Green & Global Head of Sustainable Finance Market Analytics at S&P Global Ratings, who talks about the nascent green equity market and the promising signs for future growth.

Adam Kirkman, Strategic Advisor, and Ben Stuart, Chief Commercial Officer, at Xpansiv who discuss how exchanges are turning environmental commodities into investable markets that funnel global capital towards a net-zero future.

Dr. Soraphol Tulayasathien, Head of Corporate Strategy & Strategic Initiatives Division at SET who sets out how the Stock Exchange of Thailand is strengthening infrastructure, guiding investment and building capacity to drive long-term economic resilience and global competitiveness.

Rounding out July's issue, Paul Wightman, Senior Director, International Research and Product Development at CME Group, highlights how rising demand for biofuels is driving the launch of European Rapeseed Oil futures.

We very much look forward to seeing you again in August.
