CEO Letter - October 2017

By: The WFE Team Oct 2017

Dear Colleagues

Welcome to Focus, the October issue.

This month, we are delighted to feature an interview with Kesara Manchusree, President, The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), following the recent WFE General Assembly & Annual Meeting in Bangkok. Khun Kesara tells us about SET’s dynamic three-part strategy, and outlines her vision for the exchange.

Businesses across industries are facing disruption and the exchange sector is no different, writes Loh Boon Chye, CEO, Singapore Exchange (SGX). His article makes for inspiring reading, and he concludes by saying that the exchanges of the future can spawn creative ideas, encourage greater investment activity and elevate the overall quality of the markets they operate in, by collaborating and working together.

In this edition, we hear from The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) about its recent launch of a data centre. With this implementation, the NSE can now offer state-of-the-art, secure cloud services to both market operators and firms, moving the exchange firmly into the future. And we feature an overview of Japan Exchange Group’s (JPX) series of events in Tokyo earlier this month, to open IOSCO's inaugural World Investor Week.

The WFE Research Team provides a roundup of the developments in the equities, derivatives and bond markets in Q3 2017, covering global and regional shifts in Q3 2017 relative to Q3 2016.

Finally, we are pleased to announce that the next WFE Working Committee will take place in Frankfurt on Tuesday 23 January 2018, kindly hosted by Deutsche Boerse. The WFE Statistical Advisory Group (SAG) will also meet in Frankfurt, on Monday 22 January 2018. Invitations will be sent in due course, so please look out for further details and the registration form.

We hope you enjoy this edition. Thank you.
