CEO Letter - June 2020

By: The WFE Focus Team Jun 2020

Dear Colleagues

Welcome to the June issue of Focus.

This month we turn over the magazine to the outstanding work our member exchanges and CCPs are doing in the field of sustainable finance.

Last month we focused on how our members were contributing to the fight against Covid-19, from extending a hand of support to members to helping local communities cope during the pandemic.

So from this we move to the role that sustainability can play in economic recovery, including initiatives to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

We are proud to feature contributions from seven distinguished leaders:

The Israel Securities Authority on how technology and innovation are key to create a supportive regulatory environment;

The Saudi Stock Exchange Company (Tadawul) explains how Nomu, the parallel equity market, allows SMEs to access the capital they need to grow;

Japan Exchange Group discusses the links between environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and corporate value;

The Egyptian Exchange explores circuit breakers, price limits and volatility curbing during turbulent times, including the coronavirus pandemic;

The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange considers how sustainability practices are key to assuring long-term business growth;

Luxembourg Stock Exchange argues that finance needs to be part of a sustainable renewal to build economic resilience after the pandemic; and

Shenzhen Stock Exchange on how market-based financing can help SMEs weather the coronavirus storm and capture emerging business opportunities.

We thank our contributors, and each of our members and affiliates for the tireless work they are doing to keep markets open, and staff and stakeholders safe.

We are continuing to facilitate the exchange of Covid-19 business continuity best practice on our dedicated webpage, which brings together exchange and CCP efforts to keep operating resilient markets in the midst of the crisis.

Please continue to send new initiatives and actions you are taking in regard to Covid-19, so we can keep the website updated. You can do this by sending your updates to [email protected]

Thank you for joining us for this month's issue. Stay safe and healthy.
