By: The WFE Focus Team Nov 2023

Welcome to the November issue of WFE Focus.

This month we focus on efforts our members around the world are making to address the challenges of climate change ahead of COP28, the United Nations conference on the topic starting Nov. 30.

Sohn Byungdoo, CEO of the Korea Exchange, kicks things off by detailing initiatives to steer financial markets toward a sustainable and resilient future. Gregor Spilker of CME group examines the impact electric vehicles are having on commodity markets worldwide and Laurent Poirot of SGX discusses building a global ecosystem of equities-based climate solutions comprising ETFs, derivatives and data.

Then Philip Chen, chairman of the Taipei Exchange, shares how it promotes sustainable development through the capital market and assists companies in their sustainable efforts. Rasha Dayyat of the Amman Stock Exchange explains the climate change-related procedures and disclosures required by listed companies on the exchange, and Ahmed Salman of the Egyptian Exchange details the actions it is taking to drive sustainability in Egyptian and African markets.

In the Americas, Juan Pablo Cordoba, CEO of the new Nuam Exchange, explains that the regional holding aligns with the best sustainability development practices in its activities. Randall Hopkins and Erika Spence of Nasdaq answer questions on how its Capital Access Platforms Division is taking advantage of technology to help corporates unlock ROI on their sustainability reporting processes. Flavia Mouta Fernandes and Fernando de Andrade Mota, explain that B3 proposed substantial changes to its listing rules, which included the creation of an annex to the Issuers’ Regulation regarding ESG measures.

And finally, Alina Aldambergen, chairwoman of KASE’s Management Board, answers questions about the exchange's plans for its future growth.

It is inspiring to see the many ways exchanges are addressing the issue of climate change. Keep fighting the good fight.
